David Winfrey neglected pursuit of a degree in English by spending far too many hours in his college’s subterranean science and engineering library annex Xeroxing old issues of Aviation Week, Missiles and Rockets, and the British Interplanetary Society journal Spaceflight.

He brings several decades’ reading in politics, history and other branches of the humanities to dreams of things that never were in aerospace, and is currently writing a “history” of the universe in which the Pilgrim Observer interplanetary spacecraft was not merely a model kit.
